It's Critical Mass Time Again
Last month, I attended the Critical Mass Ride in Orlando.
Along with 200 other cyclists, we set off to promote alternative modes of transportation.
I didn't know what to expect, but I am always touched by the crowd effect syndrome. A group of unrelated people sharing a common experience and being overcome with emotion, like the crowd singing You Can't Always Get What You Want at a Rolling Stones concert.
The beginning of the ride wass the challenging part due to the fact that everyone starts off at the same time and in a confined area, but once we got onto the open street there was no stopping us, literally, no stopping. I asked my friend did we need to stop at the red lights and he said "no that's the point."
More than a few people honked their horns in a comradely fashion, while a few just honked them. We snarled a few lanes of traffic through downtown Orlando and ended up 9 miles later at Stardust Video to share in the obligatory beer.
Critical Mass tomorrow the 25th at 5:30 pm, see you there.
Looks like a fun time! Good to see that there were so many people there too!
