Disappear
It's lonely here without you
zorro just hangs around the house
it's lonely here without you
the garden is neglected
where the rose used to grow
vines twine around the brown patches
even though spring is blooming everywhere
the sidewalk is cracked in front of your house
and i call your name and it echoes
reverberates
along the hedge row
along the fence
it's lonely here
without you
tomorrow comes too soon
i was just remembering yesterday when I woke up
wrote you a letter
and called your phone
it's lonely here without you
seems to be a week or so
but i still try to remember the sight of you
the smell of you
the thought of you
I haven't been myself these days I haven't thought
of me these days
one thing
to do
tomorrow is
sit here on my own - watch the spring turn to summer and the fall lumber on
i can't remember the mess i made
i can't remember the haste escape
i left the house
didn't make the bed
just walked on the cracked street
back street
crack street
it's lonely here
without you

jane behind the curtain
jane behind the curtain
April 2010 - j.conrader
the light
from behind the curtain
jane is hiding there
where
her blonde hair is hanging
in her face
a rumpled lace collar around her neck
black worn fabric fitted against her chest
jane
now where has she gone
we searched the white kitchen
we searched the grand hall
we searched the dark dining room
the locked closet
the empty cell
where has she gone
jane
deranged
delighted
derailed
jane
hiding behind the curtain

Fading
I wander round
I wander round
as the leaves fall
and new ones grow
I wander round
in the evening
as the light grows dim
I wander round
on the pavement
as the cars go by
I wander
as the bees go flying by
I wander
in the woods
as the turkeys fly
I wander
I wander
in the noon day sun
as the hawks call from the sky
I wonder why I wander
I wander on by

In the Morning
before the dawn
a certain quiet
covers the river
sawgrass swaying
the beat of a heron's wing
a leaf growing
a blossom
budding
frog
fish
gator
panther prowling
river slow
flowing
creeping like the light is
emerging
from the east over the city
and crawling flowing like
the river
like the wind
sawgrass changing
from black to green
chirp chirp chirp
bird bird bird
river flowing
river
flowing
cleansing
renewing
starting at the end
soft
wind
filled with the early light the
damp dew
hanging
on the tips of blades
washing
flowing
running
starting
wearing
the new day
like a badge
like a shield
like
a
river
in the morning

Stagnant Time Pieces
the plates pushed across the table
crumbs on the floor
stagnant time pieces
he paces
watch for the train as it rolls by
tethered to the night
quarter to nine
drawn and quartered
ten steps behind
hurried hounds
harbor great debts
ten cent note
wet, wet, wet
turn around the corner
follow me down
turn around the corner
follow me
now
paces,races
worried
fled
torn pieces
he paces
watch for the rain as it falls now
against the window pane
against the grain
step lightly
tread lightly
not on me
not,not,not
take time dear friend
take time
time to take in the future
past behind
the wall, the wall, the wall
turn to me now
turn around me now
tumble down shack
tumble down, tumble down
I slept
I slept
cold and wet
I slept
I slept
forget i mentioned
forget i came
forget, forget , get , get, get
the glasses are emptied
wine spilled on the gown
the jester is sleeping
the jester is dead
take the watch to the train delayed
take the ticket to the window in the rain
remember the ticket
remember the TICKET
flight,flit,flew
the window is open
ajar
the window is open
a door
adore
amore
he paces
he paces
the floor

Languish
Lovely Ladies who languish by the sea.
Why do you wait for me?
Bronze bodies, black floppy hats with cigarettes to light.
Lovely Ladies, do you see the clouds?
As they float by like sailing ships, as your kids wander round.
White billows, silver rimmed linings with dreams to catch.
Lovely Ladies who dig their feet into the sand.
When will you go home?
Fast cars, red hot asphalt with places to go.
Lovely Ladies who languish
Lovely Ladies in anguish
Lovely Ladies by the sea
by the sea
by the sea
Lovely ladies who languish
Why do you wait for me?

The Phone
The sunlight filtered through the curtains, heavy with dust.
She stirred quietly. The phone rang in the other room.
